The Hiji History Museum has opened on the site of the former Banri Library ruins, merged with the Banri Hoashi Memorial Hall in the same building. Many materials about Banri Hoashi, one of Hiji's great historical figures, are stored and exhibited here, so you can learn more about Hiji's history. Along with Kunisaki's Baien Miura and Hita's Tanso Hirose, Banri Hoashi (1778-1852) was one of the so-called Three Sages of Bungo. Hoashi was a man of great ability as a politician and Confucian scholar who had many disciples. Having developed many excellent human resources, he is also a symbol of Hiji's education and culture. Nowadays, this museum displays many of Hiji's historical materials. One of these is the "Toyotomi Seal" bestowed upon Kinoshita, the lord of the Hiji Domain, by Hideyoshi Toyotomi. In addition, there are Hoashi's handwritten manuscripts as well as artifacts from Sozudai Historical Ruins, dating back to the Jomon Era. More items will be added in the future, so please be sure to drop by when you visit Hiji.
