Renge-ji,also known as Ukitsumitsujo-in, is the family temple of the Oga Clan. After his demise, it was called Enkaiji.
This temple was located on the western side of Oga Atago Shrine. In 1603, in order to guard Hiji Castle's Kimon Gate, Nobutoshi Kinoshita moved the temple to its current location. At this time, it was renamed Renge-ji and became a temple for the Hiji Domain to revere. Inside the temple are items dating back to the Kamakura Era, which have been designated as cultural assets by Oita Prefecture. These include a thousand-arm wooden statue of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy, and a colored silk image of the death of Buddha. In the garden behind the temple -“Satsuki-no-niwa”, there are also 400-year-old trees.
